COLUMBUS — A Better Columbus discussed several ways to help improve the community with beautification efforts and community impact initiatives. At their Feb. 21 meeting, the ABC organization resolved to continue their campaign to get businesses to purchase and display flowers as they look to raise funds for future murals in town.

The ABC committee entered an agreement with the Rotary Club to make the flower arrangements half-priced for local business looking to display the pieces on their property. The flowers, made of a silk material that lasts year-long, have been part of a long campaign by ABC to help spruce up the downtown and business areas of Columbus.

As demand has fluctuated, ABC has recognized a need to find more businesses open to purchasing and displaying the flower arrangements.

In other ABC news, the committee discussed several ideas for providing service to the community. Ideas such as lawn mowing, painting and other chores and tasks were mentioned as potential plans to help increase the organization’s presence in the community.

According to ABC members, the hope is that the increased visibility will also increase the town’s familiarity as they look to deepen the partnership between the city and the committee.

The committee is searching for involved residents to join and lead various committees overseen by ABC. Nancy Stiles volunteered to become the Beautification and Community Service Chair, meaning the Murals and Public Art committee, the Membership committee and the New Business Committee are still without committee chairs.

The ABC organization meets every Third Wednesday of each month at the Nesbitt Memorial Library at 5:30 p.m. The next meeting is on March 20.
