League Of Women Voters to host Black History event

In recognition of Black History Month, the League of Women Voters of South-Central Texas will host a special Zoom presentation, Cotton and Sugar in Texas: 1800-2024, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28.

In recognition of Black History Month, the League of Women Voters of South-Central Texas will host a special Zoom presentation, Cotton and Sugar in Texas: 1800-2024, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28.

The League of Women Voters of South-Central Texas’ Colorado County members, together with the Friends of the Library, invites the public to a special viewing of this Zoom program at the Nesbitt Memorial Library.

Naomi Mitchell Carrier, a well-known educator, historian, musician, performing artist and author will be the featured speaker for the event, bringing her extensive background in Black music, Texas history, and heritage tourism to the occasion. Carrier has used her gifts to educate in the public arena for 40 years at festivals, museums, schools, universities, libraries, and historic sites. She currently resides in Harris County but has roots in South Central Texas and a family museum in Lavaca County.
