Lady Cards leadership

Hello everyone and welcome back to the Huddle where today we are talking about some Columbus Lady Cardinal basketball.

First things first hats off to the ladies on clinching a playoff spot, they needed to pick up a big win over Palacios and they showed up and handled their business.

But for them to get to this point, they had to look at themselves in the mirror and right the ship late in the season. If you have been around sports, you know teams that turn things around after a tough stretch have outstanding leadership on their team.

It starts with head coach Mike Albers, I mean this guy absolutely loves basketball and it may seem like he demands a lot from his players, but all his athletes do is compete. I have never seen a player give him attitude or question anything he is saying to them.

He has that sort of respect from his players and when things are going right or the team is struggling, he has no problem telling the team, “We have to be better.”

The coaching is just the tip of the iceberg for the Lady Cardinals, though, because they have two leaders, who play in the games that just do all the little things right. Sage Thomas And Karlee Mathis are two underrated leaders on this team and I am going to tell you exactly why.

With Thomas she is a quite leader but she leads by example. If it’s volleyball or basketball she’s just always in the right spot and making plays. She could be matched up with the biggest player on the other team it doesn’t matter Thomas is going to be in the mix.

She is not the tallest player on the team but yet she’s always coming down with rebounds and giving the team second chances to score.

Mathis is a little bit different being that vocal leader for the Lady Cards. Much Like Albers she has the respect and admiration of her teammates.

What separates Mathis though is she never puts herself above the team. She is the captain and a senior veteran leader, but she knows she has plenty to work on in her game and never puts a teammate down.

The Lady Cards have now clinched a playoff spot largely thanks to the contributions from their leadership core. They have accomplished their goal that they set at the beginning of the season and now they are going to try to put some teams on notice about the Columbus Lady Cardinals.

Thank you everyone for taking time to read the Huddle this week I really do appreciate it and I can’t wait to Huddle up with you guys next week.
