The Columbus Cardinals and Lady Cardinals welcomed in Bay City on Tuesday, Feb. 6, and both were handed district losses.
Lady Cards vs. Bay City, L, 7-2
Starting the back-to-back games Tuesday night was the Lady Cards. They got first dibs on Bay City and wanted to make an impact to start the night on the right foot.
Bay City came into the game having won their last four games and were looking for a fifth. As the top team in the district Bay City knows they have a target on their back, and they play accordingly.
The Lady Cards came out of the gate hot and had a few good scoring chances to start the game, but Bay City was ready to strike. After settling into the game and establishing a pace that they liked Bay City went to work.
Taking advantage of the open field and their speed Bay City capitalized on several scoring chances and took full control of the game. The Lady Cards defense could not solve Bay City’s offense and the scoreboard got ugly in a hurry.
As time winded down the Lady Cards had some more good looks at the net and made some good plays to help them build their confidence moving forward.
Cards vs. Bay City, L, 5-0
Next up was the boys’ game, and Bay City sits in second in the district in the boy’s standings and is trying to get to the top spot like the girls.
This team also came in having strung a few district wins together and looked to keep the momentum rolling against Columbus.
The Cardinals offense never was able to find a rhythm in this game because Bay City was too sound defensively. Bay City’s offense, however, used a perfect blend of speed and physicality to break through any defense the Cards presented them.
Bay City found the back of the net early and often throughout the game and the Cardinals could not bounce back from it.
With these games in their rear view now, the Cards and Lady Cards look ahead to their next district matchups where they will look to get back in the win column.
