The Columbus Cardinals welcomed the Palacios Sharks looking to pick up a district win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Cardinals did exactly that defeating the Sharks 66-48 but the game was a lot closer.

The first half of the game was the most competitive in the entire game because the Sharks were trying to play spoiler to the Cardinals playoff hopes. The Sharks are also winless in their district schedule and wanted to make a statement before the season ended.

With nothing to lose and everything to gain the Sharks played very sound in the first half and pushed the Cardinals to earn every inch of the floor. Not only that but every rebound was a battle and things were getting chippy, but the players seemed to get better with every physical play.

The Cardinals were just as aggressive and chippy with the Sharks and only made them better as time went on throughout the game. Trevor Berger was playing center against a physically bigger player but never blinked once and welcomed all contact.

Camdon Pitchford was double teamed all night and did not want it any other way while players like Braylon Fisher, Cedric Fitzgerald, Jayden Trapp, Ryan Caruthers, Brody Tribe and Trinty Thompson worked to dominate the game from 15-feet in.

With the score sitting at 35-33 at halftime, the Cardinals held onto a twopoint point lead heading into the second half. The second half is where the Cards really spread their wings and soared past the Sharks.

Berger and Pitchford went to work being the perfect 1-2 punch combo that the Sharks could not stop. The duo scored in all areas of the floor and kept the Sharks guessing.

This opened the floor to the Cardinals, and they poured on the points. When Berger and Pitchford were subbed out the Cardinals continued to drive and execute on the offensive end but it was their defense late that stole the show.

The Cardinals only allowed 15 points against in the second half closing out the Sharks high flying offense with authority. As the game ended the teams shook hands and the Cardinals celebration to a minimum because they know they still have work to do.

Looking a head the Cardinals are still in a great spot to make the playoffs but will have to string wins together as their schedule comes to an end.
