The Colorado County Elections Office has made an official statement regarding when results of the upcoming primary elections will be released.
When early voting is completed, the votes will not be fully calculated until the end of the night on election day, March 5. The results from early voting will not be released until after election night concludes at 7 p.m.
Once all the votes have been collected from residents, the Elections Office will begin calculating results and preparing to send them to various sources such as the Secretary of State and Party Chairs. Since the local elections in Colorado County are solely on the Republican ticket, current Republican Chair Tom Kelley will declare the winners for community elections. Candidates need at least 51% of the vote to be declared a winner, and elections without 51% of the vote will go to a run-off election of the top two vote receivers.
The Elections Office predicts that the entire process will make 10 p.m. likely the earliest that results will be released on elections day. The length of the ballot as well as the time required to do the manual data entry ensures that it will be a long process to count votes after the last ballot is cast.
