The Columbus Lady Cardinals have now dropped out of a playoff spot after losing back-to-back games last week.

The Lady Cards lost to Hallettsville and Tidehaven last week leaving them with a 7-6 record and tied for 4th place with Yoakum who has the same record.

Starting their week off the Lady Cards took on Hallettsville and like the boys game it was intense. The Lady Cards played with their typical tenacity that they are known for and kept things close for the entire game.

The Lady Cards struggled to get shots to fall throughout the game though and it was ultimately their downfall in this game.

They put the game in the rear-view mirror though and hit the road on Friday to go take on TIdehaven. It was another district game and a chance to put themselves in a great spot to clinch a playoff spot.

Tidehaven is the 3rd place team in the district, but the Lady Cards match up well against them and they saw an opportunity to get back in track. Tidehaven was ready to play spoiler though and kept the Lady Cards at bay to secure the win 61-53.

This moved the Lady Cards to 5th place in the district but tied with Yoakum for the 4th spot. In order to make the playoffs the Lady Cards would have to beat Palacios and Yoakum would have to lose their next game for the Lady Cards to jump into that 4th place spot.

The season series is currently split with one win each between Yoakum and the Lady Cards. So, if both the Lady Cards and Yoakum win their next games, they would have to play each other one more time to decide who goes to the playoffs.

The path to the playoffs got a little bit harder for the Lady Cards but if there is one thing this team loves it is adversity and they will welcome any challenge with open arms.

The Lady Cards are not worried much about that noise now and are only focused on that next game against Palacios on their home court on Tuesday, Feb. 2.
