The Columbus Lady Cardinals defeated the Rice Lady Raiders on their home field before traveling to El Campo and losing to split their district games last week.

The Lady Cards battled hard but unfortunately could not come away with the victory at El Campo.

Vs. Rice, 3-0, W

The Lady Cards hit the ground running to start their week as they welcomed in the Lady Raiders on Tuesday, Jan. 30.

The Lady Cards played a great first half, racking up three goals from Savannah Daniel, Shacherin Ruiz and Courtney Hinson. Lexi Ybarra also played a big role in Tuesday’s win recording a shutout over the Lady Raiders.

The Lady Cards carried that lead into halftime and did not look back.

They came out int he second half with a defense first mentality. Ever the competitive team though the Lady Cardinals grew frustrated when their offensive attempts did not find the back of the net.

Their frustration turned into excitement once the clock hit zero, and they celebrated their victory as a team at midfield.

The Lady Cards enjoyed their home field win and then set their sights on El Campo and their next matchup looming in the distance on Friday, Feb. 2.

@ El Campo, 2-0, L

Coming off their victory over Rice the Lady Cards traveled to El Campo for the second of their district games last week.

The Lady Cards came in with some swagger after their shutout on home field, but El Campo was looking to stop that momentum in its tracks.

El Campo’s defense kept the Lady Cards on the perimeter for most of the game. The Lady Cards again grew frustrated as their offense could not find their footing in the game.

They became a little impatient and out of position and El Campo took full advantage of it. El Campo scored twice to put even more pressure on the Lady Cards offense to find some sort of rhythm.

The Lady Cards started to find something late in the game, but time ran out before they could really sink their teeth into their new offensive approach.

With those games now behind them the Lady Cards look ahead to their games against Bay City on Tuesday, Feb. 6, and against Calhoun on Friday, Feb. 9, where they will look to string some district early district wins together.
