Colorado County 4-H members had a successful weekend at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Dairy Judging Contest. This contest gave members the opportunity to evaluate heifers and cows in the Jersey, Brown Swiss and Holstein breeds, as well as giving seniors an opportunity to give oral reasons as to why they placed a class.
The Senior Team was made up of Jack Dudensing, Colten Koy, Lana Potter, Jase Rau while the Junior Team was composed of Henry Jones, Caden Koy, Jacob Koy, Khloe Woolard.
The Junior Team earned several honors from their performance in the contest. Jacob Koy placed fourth overall, while the team took eighth place overall. The Juniors took the top spot with the Brown Swiss breed. They also took sixth place with Jersey, ninth place with Holstein and 13th place in the Reasons contest.
The Senior Team scores counted for both the Fort Worth Contest and the Texas 4-H State Dairy Judging Contest.
At the Fort Worth contest, the senior team took second place overall with Lana Potter and Jack Dudensing placing fourth and 10th place respectively. The Seniors took second place with the Jersey breed, third place with the Brown Swiss Breed and sixth place with the Holstein breed. They also took fourth place in the Reasons competition.
The Seniors took second place overall at the Texas 4-H State Dairy Contest. Potter took second place individually and Dudensing took fifth place. Jase Rau and Colten Koy placed in 12th and 13th place respectively.
Since the senior team was 2nd place in the State Contest, they qualified to compete in the Dairy Judging Contest at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Kentucky this November.
