The Weimar Ladycats took on Ganado on Tuesday, Jan. 9, and secured the win on their home court.

The win improved the Ladycats district record to 4-2 but it came down to the wire.

The Ladycats came into this game riding a high after beating Louise and looked to carry over that type of momentum against Ganado. The Ladycats and Ganado started the game with fierce attacks to the basket.

The Ladycats were able to establish their paint presence because of this, and it paid off big down the stretch. After establ ishing a lead, Ganado tried to make the scoreboard look less one sided.

Ganado went on a little run to cut into the Ladycats lead right before half to make the score close and set up an exciting second half of basketball.

The late run sparked Ganado’s offense in the second half and the Ladycats defense was tested. This was a difficult test for the Ladycats’ defense because Ganado was playing fast and the Ladycats were struggling to keep up.

They were able to resettle things down as the fourth quarter drew near and again were able to reestablish their lead over Ganado. Ganado again made a push and got close to reclaiming the lead from the Ladycats.

The Ladycats defense though turned in a very gutsy performance as they scratched and clawed their way to playing sound defense as time ticked down.

The clock was the Ladycats’ best friend at the end of the game as they did everything they possibly could to melt time from the scoreboard. The final buzzer sounded, and when the Ladycats looked up they were still three points ahead of Ganado and claimed their victory.

The Ladycats set their sight son the next game on Wednesday, Jan. 17, When they take on Bloomington on their home court.
