The Columbus Lady Cardinals spent their Friday night on the road in Palacios and slid back home before the cold and icy weather with a victory in tow.

The Lady Cards went toe-to-toe with the Sharkettes and ended up defeating them 51-35 to improve to 5-2 in their district schedule.

The Lady Cards, like their counterpart varsity boys, played opossum in the first half of the game. The Sharkettes came out firing on all cylinders and flying up and down the court and kept things close with the Lady Cards.

They threw everything at the Lady Cards and found some success early in the game. The Lady Cards were not fazed by it through and constantly tried to put the game in neutral to control the pace.

Once the Lady Cards settled things down, it was a completely different game. The Lady Cards were the stars of the show. The Lady Cards have an ability to spread the floor out using their speed and their size to their favor.

The Lady Cards tend to play small ball throughout the game, but they are more than willing to throw a true center out there to cause havoc in the paint. With a great paint presence from Andreanna Shropshire the Lady Cards spread the floor out and worked the ball around until a lane opened.

The speed of their guards could not be matched by the Sharkettes, and the Lady Cards made no mistakes when presented with the opportunities to score. In addition to the great offensive pressure, they were providing the Lady Cards defense locked things down.

Down the stretch of the game, the Sharkettes made a push to cut into the lead, but the Lady Cards just overwhelmed them on the defensive end and closed out the game with a win.

The Lady Cards will try to stay warm while the cold weather comes through town, but will be ready to leave the nest yet again on Wednesday, Jan. 17, to take on the Edna Cowgirls looking for another win.
