Christmas is over

A View Of Columbus Through Rose-Colored Glasses

This column is dedicated to acknowledging examples of positives that express the community spirit of Columbus — our town.

The Christmas tree has dried out. Everyone has eaten more than they should. Some folks have returned gifts and others have enjoyed the after Christmas sales. We each have a story about our time with family and friends. Some of the stories have a great ending and others are a bit sad. As we celebrated the Christ Child’s birth, we counted our blessings of the past year.

Yes, we did not make our championship goals in the football and volleyball playoffs, but we did produce some of the finest boy and girl athletes in the state of Texas. At the same time, we acknowledge the bluechip coaching staff in both sports.

For families who could not provide gifts for their children, our churches and civic organizations stepped up to the plate.

Let’s acknowledge our local merchants who worked to prepare the “goods” that allowed us to shop locally and build our economy.

It was a pleasure to have a lighted Christmas parade so fine that it was considered a Hallmark production.

Now to Ladies Night Out, it’s growth is exciting. The Chamber of Commerce gets an A+.

In the line-up of bouquets for the year, our Columbus Community Hospital must receive several bright stars. How fortunate are we!

Never stop being aware that our City officials and employees, Sheriff and police department officers, provide a lifestyle of feeling safe in our hometown.

Our town has bountiful volunteers who offer a helping hand every day. The spirit of Christmas abounds in Columbus.

Food for thought ... Wouldn’t it be wonderful if employees throughout Columbus would start responding to customers offering a “thank you” for service with the pleasing reply of “with pleasure” instead of the beleaguered response of “no problem.”

In case you find my bottom bridge of false teeth on one of your outings, please let me know. I lost my teeth traveling back from Santa Fe, and so far, they are still missing.
