The Columbus Lady Cardinals secured one more win on Wednesday, Dec. 20, before taking a break for the Christmas holiday.

The Lady Cards defeated Industrial 42-31 and improved their district record to 3-1 and now can enjoy the holiday on a high note.

The Lady Cards started the game fast as they normally do and started flexing their muscles early and established an early lead. The Lady Cards defense was firing on all cylinders and were in the face of Industrial all game long.

Industrial’s offense did not shy away from the Lady Cards aggressive defense and were able to keep things close for a little while. The Lady Cards’ offense, however, was able to find their rhythm and they extended their lead just before halftime.

With a halftime lead the Lady Cards offense took a bit of a back seat role as the defense took over the game. The Lady Cards did a great job in the second half limiting Industrial’s offensive opportunities and it led to them having more scoring chances.

As time ticked down the Lady Cards’ defense was tested again as Industrial’s offense made a late push to try to tie the game up. The Lady Cards’ defense continued to limit their opportunities and eventually Industrial had to foul to keep time on the clock.

The Lady Cards handled their business at the free throw line and quickly got back on defense until time reached zero. When the final buzzer sounded the Lady Cards breathed a sigh of relief because they are going into the break with a huge district win in their pocket.

The Lady Cards get a well-deserved break to spend time with their families before coming back to take on the La grange Leopards on Wednesday, Dec. 27, on their home court in Columbus.
