City Council OKs actions for events

COLUMBUS – The City Council held their final meeting of 2023 at an alternate time and date than their usual schedule as they met on Friday, Dec. 22. The council discussed and approved actions to allow for a few events that will be hosted in Columbus in the upcoming weeks.

COLUMBUS — The City Council held their final meeting of 2023 at an alternate time and date than their usual schedule as they met on Friday, Dec. 22. The council discussed and approved actions to allow for a few events that will be hosted in Columbus in the upcoming weeks.

The Council approved a noise variance request for the Legends of Zydeco Concert that will occur on Dec. 30 at the Colorado County Fairgrounds. The request by Smalltyme Entertainment was approved for the times of 6 p.m. to 12:45 a.m. to account for the increased volume as a result of the concert. Set up for the event will begin on Dec. 28 at 12 p.m., and clean-up for the event will be on Dec. 31 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Catholic Daughters of America will be sponsoring their annual Walk for Life event on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. City council approved closing Milam Street from Industry State Bank at 2015 Milam St. to the Courthouse Square to keep the roads clear for pro-life march.

In other news, the sewer averaging program to determine sewer rates started on Dec. 15 and will run until Feb. 15.

TxDOT has plans to finish the installation of signal lights at the intersection of Fannin and Walnut Street by the end of the year.

Columbus and Colorado County will be hosting students from Texas A&M University College Station to perform an assessment of the modes of transportation in the area. They will be studying the capabilities of vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure in preparation for their Spring 2024 Transportation Planning Class.
