The Columbus Lady Cardinals have won back-toback district games defeating the Rice Lady Raiders and the Yoakum Bulldogs.

@ Rice, W, 52-11

Coming off finishing second place in the Flatonia tournament the Lady Cardinals traveled down the road to take on the Rice Lady Raiders.

The Lady Cards took the game right to the Lady Raiders and carried their momentum over from finishing in second place at the tournament. The Lady Cards started fast and were able to run their offensive and defensive systems early in the game and it paid off in a big way.

The Lady Cards defense smothered the Lady Raiders offense which led to the Lady Cards forcing turning overs for fast breaks and points. Sage Thomas and Thea Schobel led the Lady Cards on the box score with 10 and eight points respectively, but the Lady Cards played a full team game.

There was a full team effort to rebound the ball effectively and get the ball out in space as well as being aggressive on defense. The Lady Cards secured their first district win of the season despite missing some key players and looked to keep things rolling on Friday against Yoakum.

Vs. Yoakum, W, 28-26 With the first district win under their belt the Lady Cards set their sights on the Yoakum Bulldogs because the only thing better than one district win is two district wins.

The Lady Cards started the game a little slow, but their defense was able to steady things early on. The Bulldogs matched that effort with great defense of their own and points were very limited throughout the game.

The Lady Cards were able to muster up just enough to just edge out the Bulldogs and they were able to secure their second district win before enjoying the Christmas spirit over the weekend.

The Lady Cards will enjoy a little break before coming back on Tuesday, Dec. 19, to take on Industrial on their home court in Columbus.
