Commissioners Court approves installment of connection cables, selects dates for 2024

COLUMBUS – The Commissioners Court’s Dec. 11 meeting featured several decisions for the court including the installation of connection cables by two separate companies and deciding the 2024 dates for court meetings.

The Judge Pro-Tem position rotated from Commissioners Wessels to Commissioner Brandt in respect to the established rotation order.

The Commissioners approved a motion to allow for a Joint Primary in the March elections, meaning that both Democrats and Republicans will host their primary elections in the same polling location. Construction at the Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 Office continues as scheduled as they prepare the building at 1117 Travis St. for the Elections Office to take over operations in time for the March primaries.

The Colorado Valley Telephone company’s application proposing to bury fiber optic cable in the north end of precinct 2. County Roads 200, 201, 204, 208 and Oncken Road are the next projects as part of larger effort to increase the amount of fiber optic cable in the area.

The Commissioners accepted an application by AT&T Telephone Company to take copper cable from under the ground on Zimmerscheidt Road and suspend them between two poles that the company would install.

Precinct 2 will be putting up some of their surplus equipment near the end of their life cycles for purchase on GovDeals.com to reclaim some of their value instead of putting money towards repairs.

The Commissioners do not have another meeting scheduled in December and will reconvene in 2024.
