COLUMBUS — Habitat for Humanity hit a milestone mark after setting the framework for their 30th home in the county. On Saturday, Dec. 9, Habitat for Humanity held a ground blessing as a deacon prayed for the new homeowners and spread holy water around the work site.
Several supporters were in attendance as Reggie and Dorothy Evans watched the construction of their new home’s frame. The couple was visibly emotional as Deacon Ben Munguia addressed them and wished blessings upon them and their house.
Habitat for Humanity reached the milestone after decades of assisting county residents with building affordable homes. Since the organization has a heavy religious influence, Habitat begins the construction of every home with a ground blessing by an ordained religious official.
Habitat continues to seek donors and volunteers to contribute either to the funds required to build and repair homes in the county or to assist with the physical labor required to erect a home. With their 30th built home, they have reached an important mark as they progress their mission to provide as many people as possible with affordable and satisfactory housing.
