Colorado County is encouraging more people to become poll workers as there is a critical shortage. Your commitment strengthens our democracy, inspires greater civic engagement and volunteerism and helps ensure free and fair elections.

Poll workers are critical to the success of an election. Having an adequate number of poll workers to staff polling places on and before Election Day can ensure voters receive the assistance they need at the polls and can help provide a positive and smooth voting experience for all. By signing up to be a poll worker, you can Help America Vote and be a local community volunteer.

While specific duties vary depending on location, poll workers are the face of the election office during voting. Most election workers are tasked with setting up and preparing the polling location, welcoming voters, verifying voter registrations and issuing ballots. Poll workers also help ensure voters understand the voting process by demonstrating how to use voting equipment and explaining voting procedures.

Organizations and companies can support recruiting poll workers by spreading the word, encouraging employees to participate and offering employees time off to volunteer as poll workers. Providing volunteer opportunities has been shown to improve employee morale and well-being, and even reduce sick leave.

In Colorado County it takes an average of 136 individuals to host a fair, free and successful election. There are multiple elections every year. Training and criminal background checks are required.

We need Early Voting workers, election day workers — specifically in Precinct 202 (Sheridan), Precinct 401 (Altair/Alleyton), Precinct 402 (Eagle Lake), Spanish speaking workers and alternate workers for all precincts.

For more information you can visit the Colorado County website at http://www.co.colorado.tx.us/page/colorado. Elections and look under the “Get Involved” Section, you can call the County Election Office at 979-732-6860, or your County Party Chair to sign up.

If you have not received a new card or a letter asking for updated information, please contact our office or log on to the Secretary of State website to see if you are a registered voter at votetexas.gov.

The last day to register, to be eligible to vote in the 2024 PRIMARY (03/05/24), is Monday February 5, 2024.

We appreciate your assistance in getting our voter registration lists up to date and are looking forward to a busy, busy, busy election year. For additional election information please visit the Colorado County website for fast and easy access.
