The Weimar Wildcats won one of their first two games at the Thorndale tournament on Thursday, Dec. 7, and Friday, Dec. 8.

The Wildcats played Lexington and Smithville to start the tournament and lost the first one but bounced back with a big win in game two.

Vs. Lexington, L, 43-32

The Wildcats started things off against Lexington and the Wildcats were ready to play early on. The Wildcats offense found their rhythm early on and were able to build an early lead.

The Wildcats offense was flying all over the court in the first half and Lexington had no answer for them. Once the second half rolled around though Lexington looked like a different team.

The score was a little close at halftime, so Lexington came out ready to retake the lead and close out the game. Defensively they shut down the high-flying offense the Wildcats had in the first half.

Defensively the Wildcats were struggling in the second half and then started to get into foul trouble which aided Lexington in their win.

The loss gave the Wildcats a lot of things to clean up before their next game against Smithville looking to get back in the win column.

Vs. Smithville, W, 45-30

The Wildcats took their loss against Lexington and used it in a positive way to fuel them to a win over Smithville.

The game started simi lar to the one against Lexington with the Wildcats offense hitting on all notes early on in the game. They again established a lead that they carried into halftime, and this is where things turned around for the Wildcats.

They came out in the second half locking things down on the defensive end of the floor, which led to more offensive opportunities. They took full advantage of those opportunities and closed out the game to add another tick to their win column.

The Wildcats now look ahead to their next game on the road against Burton on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Burtin High School.
