Coming off of a district loss to Edna the Lady Cardinals competed in the Flatonia tournament where they got back on track with four wins.

The Lady Cards defeated Smithville, Fayetteville, Stockdale and Giddings before losing to the hosting Flatonia in the championship game.

Vs. Smithville, W, 62-50 The Lady Cards wasted no time making their presence felt in the tournament by defeating Smithville to start the tournament with a 1-0 record.

The Lady Cards were led by senior Karlee Mathis who scored 26 points during the game and was aided by Anaya Gardner and Thea Schobel who scored nine points each. The Lady Cards swarmed Smithville from the opening tip off and just continued to apply pressure throughout the game.

The aggressive and consistent scoring lead to the Lady Cards picking up their first win of the tournament and put them in a rhythm.

Vs. Fayetteville, W, 46-29 The Lady Cards stayed in that rhythm in game two of the tournament by dominating their game against Fayetteville.

The Lady Cards gave the scorekeeper a workout in the first quarter outscoring Fayetteville 17-3 to start the game. The second quarter was much of the same with the Lady Cards outscoring Fayetteville 12-6.

This allowed the Lady Cards to carry a very comfortable 29-9 lead into the locker room for halftime. With a 20 point lead the Lady Cards were in cruise control as they closed out the game in the second half to improve to 2-0 in the tournament.

Vs. Stockdale, W, 44-29 The Lady Cards continued to roll on Friday defeating the Stockdale Brahmas and this game was similar to their game against Fayetteville.

The Lady Cards offense took the game by storm at the start and did not allow the Brahmas to get anything started. Defensively and offensively the Lady Cards were in full control of the game and secured their third win of the tournament.

They were led again by Mathis who posted another 20-point game alongside Schobel who contributed 10 points to the winning effort.

Vs. Giddings, L, 36-35 The Lady Cards had to gut out their fourth win of the tournament as Giddings had nothing going to let them run over them.

Giddings and the Lady Cards spent the whole game trading leads and with each point scored the crowd only grew louder and louder. When the fourth quarter rolled around the two teams scratched and clawed for every point that was scored.

Mathis again led the team with 11 points and ended up scoring the difference maker late in the fourth quarter to secure their spot in the championship game.

Vs. Flatonia, L, 65-55 The Lady Cards steak came to an end against the hosting Flatonia in the championship game of the tournament.

The Lady Cards were within striking distance to take the lead from Flatonia, but the home court advantage proved to be the key to victory, and they walked away with a silver medal.

Mathis and Sage Thomas were named All-Tournament players for their efforts in Flatonia over the weekend.

The Lady Cards now look ahead to their district schedule with their next game on Tuesday, Dec. 12, against Rice on the road.
