The Columbus Cardinals were eliminated from the playoffs in the third round and did not get to where they wanted to be but are still walking away with All-district honors.

Headlining the group were five players who all earned individual awards for their contributions this season.

Leading things off is the District MVP which was awarded to Cardinals’ senior running back Ty’Vone Whitehead. Next was the Offensive and Defensive MVPs which were awarded to junior quarterback Adam Schobel and junior linebacker John Schobel respectively.

This was just the tip of the iceberg for the Cardinals though because senior lineman Jayden Trapp won the Offensive Lineman of the Year award. That was followed up by senior kicker Javier Mendoza being named the All-District Kicker.

The Cardinals had several players named to the All-District teams themselves starting with six players being named to the first team. Seniors Daegan Stevens and Jackson Hancock along with juniors Anthony Shorter, Zachary Janik and Orman Sanchez and freshman Braylon Fisher were all named to the first All-District team.

The Cardinals’ offense was one of, if not, the best in the state and all six of those players were a factor in being ranked so high offensively. All of these players contributed to the Cardinals’ success this season in both large and small ways which helped them to earn a spot on this roster.

Defensively the Cardinals were just as stout being a hug part of their winning ways. The Carindals’ defense had six players also named to the first All-District team and had a few familiar names make the cut.

Shorter and Stevens made the first All-District defensive team alongside seniors Devin Woods and Jayden Trapp, junior Camdon Pitchford and sophomore Brody Vinklarek. All six of these players were a big reason as to why the Cardinals were so good defensively.

They helped anchor the team when the offense would struggle and knew how to take the ball away so their offense can find their rhythm.

The second All-District team for offense had Pitchford joined by senior AJ Jackson and junior John Schobel. The second All-District team for defense and seniors Ezra Hill and Carson Beettner, juniors Hudson Hauerland and Elijsh Usher, sophomore Rylan Carruthers and Freshman Brennan Hicks.

Just because it says second team does not mean these guys were a part of something special and played a role in the Carindals success. These guys were great options to either throw the ball to or come up with a big tackle for loss or take away.

Last but certainly not least we the All-District Utility player and that honor was given to junior Ayden Carter for everything he did all over the field.

Congratulations to the Columbus Cardinals on a fantastic season and congrats to all the players who earned All-District Honors.
