Hello everyone and welcome to the Huddle where this week we will be discussing the Columbus Football team and where I think they are heading after this season.
It may be too early to talk about this type of stuff but I figured why not get the conversation started because eventually these are the type of questions they will face.
Looking at the Cardinals roster there are two noticeable names leaving the offense and they are leaving big shoes to fill.
Jackson Hancock and Ty’Vone Whitehead are both seniors and will be graduating this season and those are two names Cardinals fans have seen a lot this season. So, the first question is with those two holes in their roster, the question is do the Cardinals have the depth to fill those holes?
The short answer is yes because they still have Camdon Pitchford, Braylon Fisher, Brody Vinklarek and Ayden Carter ready to take on a bigger role. On top of that Adam Schobel will be returning for his senior season.
That’s not my biggest concern for this team because I watched this offense all season long they are going to put points on the board no matter who is on the field my main concern will be on the defensive side of the ball. The Cardinals’ defense was a big part of their success this season delivering consistent pressure to the opposing team’s quarterback.
The Cardinals’ defensive line had at least two sacks every game this season because their defensive line was just so strong and athletic. They ripped through blocks with ease and recorded several sacks and TFLs.
The unfortunate part is most of the guys in that line are seniors and in football if you can’t win the line of scrimmage it’s going to be tough to win at all. So, what are they going to do to help make sure the line does not fall off too much?
I have no doubt the coaches have already started thinking about next season’s team, so I am sure there is a plan in place. But it will be interesting to see what decisions they make and if anything within their scheme changes and find success in different ways.
With the season over the Cardinals will take time to reflect but like I said earlier they are going to have to answer these questions at some point so why not start the conversation.
