Youth rodeo competitors headed to Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – Local youth rodeo competitors Jaxon Wahlberg of Nada, age 11, and Jakelyn Primrose of Eagle Lake, age 19, qualified to compete in the Vegas Tuffest Jr. World Championship this December.

LAS VEGAS — Local youth rodeo competitors Jaxon Wahlberg of Nada, age 11, and Jakelyn Primrose of Eagle Lake, age 19, qualified to compete in the Vegas Tuffest Jr. World Championship this December.

Wahlberg, son of Justin & Lauren Wahlberg, grandson of Joe Mike & Diane Spanihel of Eagle Lake and Lew & Debbie Wahlberg of Alleyton and Jakelyn Primrose, daughter of Jody and Michelle Primrose, granddaughter of Joe Mike and Diane Spanihel of Eagle Lake and Ronnie and Debbie Primrose of Weesatche will be two of 1,000 qualified contestants from 29 different states including 4 provinces in Canada competing from Dec. 6 to Dec. 13 at the Mike and Sherrylynn Johnson Vegas Tuffest Jr. World Championship.

The competition is held the first week of the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.

Jaxon qualified in the 10 & under Breakaway Roping and 10 & under Double Mugging. Jakelyn qualified in the 19 & under girls Breakaway Roping.

Vegas Tuffest held 41 qualifiers across the Unites States and Canada to give the rodeo youth an equal chance to make it to the Finals and the opportunity to win their share of $1.5 million + in cash & prizes, including two Dodge Ram dually trucks.

The Vegas Tuffest Jr. World Championship will kick off on Wednesday, Dec. 6 with the introduction of contestants known as the Back Number Ceremony. It is free to attend, starting each morning at 8:15 a.m. at The Expo @ World Market Center located at 435 S. Grand Central Parkway in Las Vegas. The event will be livestreamed at www.Johnsonline.com.

Primrose also qualified for the Masters Tour Breakaway Roping on Dec. 7 and 8, Junior World Finals in the 19 & under girl’s breakaway on Dec. 9, Ultimate Calf Roping in the Breakaway on Dec. 10 to Dec. 12, and Junior Rope for the Crown Breakaway World Championship on Dec. 11 to Dec. 12.
