LA GRANGE, TEXAS – The Green Door Fund for Workforce Development and Education (GDF), a program of the Fayette Community Foundation (FCF), recently hosted its inaugural Career Crusade for La Grange High School students, in collaboration with the La Grange Independent School District.

The GDF, dedicated to showcasing viable career paths to Fayette County students, emphasizing alternatives to traditional college education, took three students on an eye-opening journey to explore various industries. Partnering with McCourt Equipment, Fayette County EMS, Dairy Farmers of America (DFA), and Colorado Valley Communications, the event aimed to broaden students’ horizons about potential career opportunities in their local community.

During the Career Crusade, each business conducted informative sessions, providing a glimpse into a typical workday. DFA presented an overview of its operations, shedding light on potential roles immediately post-high school. Colorado Valley Communications delved into its service area and showcased the technology driving telecommunications and internet services, including a field demonstration of fiber splicing. Following this, students enjoyed a meal from Texas One Stop in La Grange before proceeding to McCourt Equipment, where they received a comprehensive tour of the facilities, witnessing manufacturing processes, painting, and equipment demonstrations. McCourt Equipment also outlined potential career paths within their organization. The final stop at Fayette County EMS allowed students to gain insights into equipment usage, the scope of work, and provided a firsthand look inside an ambulance.

Leslie Penello, Green Door Fund Committee Chair, expressed satisfaction with the on-site visits, noting, “The students’ engagement with discussions about job opportunities prompted them to seriously consider their futures—a crucial reflection at this stage in their lives.”

The GDF extends its gratitude to McCourt Equipment, Fayette County EMS, Dairy Farmers of America, and Colorado Valley Communications, and Texas One Stop for their enthusiastic participation in the Career Crusade. Special thanks are also extended to the La Grange Independent School District for their invaluable partnership, contributing to the success of this impactful event.
