The Weimar Wildcats traveled to Robstown and defeated the La Villa Cardinals 28-6 to be crowded the Area Champions on Friday, Nov. 17.

The Wildcats ran all over the Cardinals on their way to winning the Area Championship amassing a total of 455 rushing yards.

Zach Norrell was again at the center of the Wildcats rushing attack after he ran for 201 yards and two touchdowns. Jerron Fisher also found the endzone twice for the Wildcats and added 66 rushing yards to the 455 total.

Dreylon McMillian, Wyatt Lacina and Huxton Kloesel all contributed to the Wildcats’ rushing attack Friday night as well. McMillian racked up 71 yards while Lacina and Kloesel posted 66 and 51 yards respectively.

The Wildcats opened the score about halfway through the first quarter and had a successful 2-point try to make the score 8-0 early in the game. The Wildcat defense made a big stand and forced the Cardinals to punt.

With under a minute left the Wildcats strung together a drive and extended their lead to 14-0 right before the quarter ended. They wasted no time in the second quarter finding the endzone because after the Wildcats’ defense forced another punt and the offense went back to work.

A couple of minutes into the second quarter the Wildcats found the endzone again to further extend their lead. The point after the touchdown was good and the Wildcats had a 21-0 lead before halftime.

The Wildcats’ offense was not done yet because with under a minute left, they found the endzone for a fourth time in the first half. Another PAT was good, and the Wildcats carried a 28-0 lead into halftime.

Coming out of halftime the Wildcats kicked the ball off to the Cardinals and they were able to put together a drive and finally score on the Wildcats’ defense. The Cardinals missed the extra point after the touchdown and from then on defense was the focal point.

Both teams’ defenses played hard in the second half shutting down the opposing offense. The defenses played so well that the Cardinals score in the third quarter was the only score in the second half.

The Wildcats watched as time ticked off the clock and when it finally hit zero, they celebrated the fact that they won the Area Championship.

The Wildcats will take time to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday but will shift focus on Friday, Nov. 24, when they take on the Refugio Bobcats in the third round of the playoffs.
