EAGLE LAKE — This year, the Eagle Lake Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the selection of Bobbe Shapiro Nolan as the Parade Marshal for the Christmas Parade of Lights, taking place Dec. 9 in Eagle Lake.
Bobbe Shapiro Nolan was born in Minnesota and has lived in 11 states (MN, NM, KS, CA, SD, KY, MT, WI, OH, DE, TX). She moved to Eagle Lake from Huntsville in 2013 following the death of her husband and purchased a house two blocks from her son Philip Nolan and his wife Kristi. Two years later she was joined by her sister Gee Gee Erickson.
Bobbe attended University of California at Berkeley, Carleton College, Wisconsin State University River Falls, University of Minnesota and graduated from Wright State University (Ohio) and the University of Dayton School of Law. She is a retired hospice nurse, inactive attorney and a very busy Fiber Artist.
In Eagle Lake, Bobbe has been an active supporter and volunteer for the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Food Pantry, Communities in Schools, United Women of Faith and Eagle Lake League of Arts. She shows her fiber art regularly at Webster Presbyterian Church in Webster, TX, Live Oak Art Center, Columbus and ARTS (Arts for Rural Texas) in Fayetteville and Schulenburg. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally through Studio Art Quilt Associates and many local quilt exhibitions, including appearances at Houston International Quilt Festival, West Point and the Library of Congress.
Bobbe and Gee Gee share a deep respect for their father’s admonition: “It isn’t enough to just have an opinion about problems. You have to get out there and do something.”
The city of Eagle Lake is fortunate that Bobbe chose to settle in town, and the Chamber is proud to be able to honor her this year.
