Comptroller Glenn Hegar distributes nearly $1.1 billion in monthly sales tax revenue to local governments

AUSTIN — In January, Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced that he would send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.07 billion in local sales tax allocations for January, 7.6 percent more than in January 2022. 

These allocations are based on sales made in November by businesses that report tax monthly. 

The local sales tax allocations for January 2023 are as follows: 

$674.5 million for cities, an increase of 6.2% since January 2022 

$227.3 million for transit systems, an increase of 6.6% since January 2022 

$66.5 million for counties, an increase of 11.6% since January 2022 

$100.6 million for special purpose districts, an increase of 18% since January 2022.
