The Weimar Ladycats softball team received their championship rings on Thursday, Nov. 9, because of their State Championship run last season.

The Ladycats went 11-1 in their district schedule to set up their deep playoff run that ended with them hoisting the State Championship trophy.

The Ladycats had to take on Falls City in the first round of the playoffs and they came ready to play. The Ladycats outscored Falls City 24-1 in their first-round matchup and they advanced to the second round after winning the first two games of the three-game series.

The second round was another three-game series against La Villa and the Ladycats again flexed their muscles. They beat La Villa 14-0 and 16-0 in the first two games of the threegame series and quickly advanced to the third round against Schulenburg.

Facing a district opponent in the playoffs the Ladycats knew that Schulenburg was a tough out and they played some of their best softball to advance to the next round. Following the theme of the Ladycats playoff run it only took two games in the threegame series to eliminate Schulenburg.

The Ladycats only allowed one run against Schulenburg while scoring 24 runs in two games, giving them more confidence as they pushed deeper into the bracket. Next up was Milano and as the number of teams narrowed down the Ladycats had to keep playing better and better.

Milano was the Ladycats toughest opponent up to this point of their playoff journey, scoring seven runs in two games. Their defense did not miss a beat though as they shutout Milano in both games to advance.

In the next round the Ladycats met up with Shiner and after dropping the first game of the three-game series 4-3 the Ladycats unloaded on Shiner. The second game of the series belonged to the Ladycats as they beat Shiner 13-7 to even things up setting up an exciting game three.

In a win or go home game the two teams needed extra innings to decide a winner. With the score tied at two runs each it was Shiner who broke the tie in the top of the 8th inning.

The Ladycats knew they needed to respond and instead of settling for a tie they went for the win. They scored three runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to close out the game 5-3 and advance to the final four.

Crawford met the same fate as the other teams that were matched up with the Ladycats and fell to them 3-0 as the Ladycats secured a spot in the State Championship game against Como- Pickton. They won the tight game 4-3 and lifted the State Championship at home plate.

The Ladycats now have rings to remember this great playoff journey and it will serve as a constant reminder of what they accomplished as a team while wearing the Weimar uniform.
