The Weimar Ladycats can now refer to themselves as Area Champs after defeating Burton in three straight sets on Friday, Nov. 3, in Schulenburg.

The Weimar Ladycats can now refer to themselves as Area Champs after defeating Burton in three straight sets on Friday, Nov. 3, in Schulenburg.

The Ladycats and Burton Panthers were in a very tight match where each team fought tooth and nail to try and establish a lead but the other never gave an inch.

The Ladycats started the game looking to set the tone and they did a great job of doing so, the Ladycats executed their system to perfection in the first set and took the game to the Panthers. Their ability to remain aggressive on offense payed off in a big way for the Ladycats as they secured a 25-18 win in the first set.

Up one set to zero, the Ladycats knew the Panthers were going to come back in the second set to try and even things up at one set a piece. The second set was where the two teams started to empty their tank and leave everything on the court.

The Ladycats built an early lead, but the Panthers stayed within striking distance for the entire set forcing the Ladycats to stay aggressive. The Ladycats relied on their systems and their communication throughout the second set, receiving scoring from multiple different players to help extend their lead late.

They closed out the set, scoring the final point needed and took a two-set to zero lead by a score of 25-21 in the second set. Heading into the third set of the match the fans for each team began to rally their team and try to will their team to victory in the pivotal third set.

With each point scored the crowd grew louder and louder as the teams traded leads early on in the set. The two teams were engaged in a heavyweight bought where the Panthers held onto their season with every point they scored.

They pushed the Ladycats to their limits, but the Ladycats knew that they were going to have to dig deep if they wanted to finish off the Panthers and advance to the next round. The unstoppable force met the immovable object in the third set, and it set the stage for an environment that rocked Schulenburg’s gym to its foundation.

The Ladycats scratched and clawed their way to keep things close as the third set drew to a close and with things tied at 25 the Ladycats wasted no time and secured the final two points needed. The Ladycats won the set 27-25 and with that they were crowned the Area Champions and set their sights on their next opponent.

The Ladycats now look ahead to their next matchup against one of the top teams in the state in the Thrall Tigerettes on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Rockdale High School.
