The Weimar Ladycats traveled to Industrial High School on Tuesday, Oct. 31, and were treated in a big way despite not trick-or-treating.

The Ladycats defeated Refugio in three straight sets on Halloween night to take home the Bi-District championship.

The Ladycats wasted no time to begin the match as they snatched up all of the early momentum quickly. They jumped out to an early 4-1 lead that was spearheaded by Taylor Smith who completely controled the net for the Ladycats offense.

Refugio bounced back quickly to make the score 4-3 in the blink of an eye, but Smith was ready with a response and added another kill to her stat line for the evening. Ashley Treece joined Smith in controlling the net as a block from her helped extend the Ladycats lead in the first set.

After Treece helped extend the lead for the Ladycats they could smell blood in the water and attacked accordingly. The Ladycats offense buzzed around in the first set and cruised to a victory that was capped off by a kill from Madison Luckey to end the set 25-17.

Heading into the second set the Ladycats knew they needed to win this set if they wanted to keep control of that early momentum they grabbed earlier. They started the set long run to build a strong early lead where an ace from Claire Pavlu was the exclamation point. Refugio could not recover from the early lead the Ladycats built, and they went up two sets to none after a 25-15 win in the second set. In the third set, the Ladycats found themselves tied 1-1 with Refugio when Lauren Hinze aced, which also breathed new life into her teammates.

The Ladycats were able to settle down and get back to their style and systems after the Hinze ace. They opened up the floor a little bit more and focused on defense while the offense went on cruise control for the third set.

Janiyah Cooper contributed to the defensive effort when she blocked a ball to help extend her team’s lead late in the third set. The Ladycats closed out the third set with a score of 25-17 and with that they hoisted the Bi-District Championship.

The Ladycats will celebrate their victory for now but will quickly shift focus to their game against Buton on Friday, Nov. 3, at Schulenburg High School at 5 p.m.
