The Columbus Cardinals won their last regular season of the year 41-0 to finish the year at a perfect 10-0 before beginning their playoff journey.

The Cardinals traveled to play the Hempstead Bobcats on Friday, Nov. 3, to get one final tune up before the playoffs begin.

The game began with the Cardinals jumping out to an early 14-0 lead because of their ability to run the football effectively. Ty’Vone Whitehead carried the ball 11 times Friday night for 64 yards and four touchdowns.

Whithead usually is a one man show out of the backfield for the Cardinals but this week he had some help establishing the rushing attack. Ralphie Johnson was a big part of the Cardinals potent rushing attack on Friday carrying the ball four times for 20 yards and one touchdown.

The ability to run the football in an effective way allowed quarterback Adam Schobel to take advantage of the different matchups with his receivers. The Cardinals ran the football so well that their receivers saw a lot of one-on-one matchups that Schobel and Jackson Hancock rarely missed on.

Schobel completed 11 of his 13 pass attempts Friday night, six of which went to Hancock. Hancock continued his impressive senior season for the Cardinals catching six passes for 106 yards and a touchdown on Friday night.

With the ability to run the ball effectively and a quarterback who threw only two incompletions the Cardinals’ offense posted 41 points easily on their way to another win. Defensively the Cardinals did what they did best and that was pressure the quarterback and take the ball away.

The Cardinals have had at least on takeaway throughout their district schedule and Friday was no different. Camdon Pitchford leaped in the air and snatched the ball out of the air giving the ball back to the Cardinals offense and they took advantage of the takeaway by scoring a touchdown.

Leading 35-0 at halftime the Cardinals were very comfortable with where they were at in the game holding all of the momentum. They came out in the second half trying maintain their lead while chewing up as much of the clock as possible.

The Defense continued to apply pressure to the Bobcats offense and forced multiple three and outs to give the ball back to their offense to chew up more clock. The Cardinals would find the endzone one more time in the fourth quarter to extend their lead but after a missed PAT the score sat at 41-0.

The Defense and offense worked in unison as time ticked off the clock and the Cardinals collected their 10th win of the season.

With the regular season finished for the Cardinals, they now wait to see who their first-round matchup will be in the playoffs which is set to be determined within the coming days.
