SAN FELIPE – One of the integral towns in American immigration to Texas during the settler area is recognizing its long history as San Felipe with a 200th-year birthday celebration on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
As part of the celebration, attendees will get to witness a historical recreation of the daily lives of those historic settlers who built their lives in the area after accepting the land grants of Stephen F. Austin. According to a release by the Texas Historical Commission, visitors will witness “a variety of interactive, living history demonst rations” throughout their time at the celebration.
The demonstrations will feature a historically accurate remake of the town’s mi l itia preparing for battle, the origin of the Texas Rangers as well as exploring the printing process of one of the earliest newspapers in Texas.
Attendees can “become a colonist” themselves as the event also features a scavenger hunt to search for the documents needed to present to Austin before accepting the bid to settle the land.
