County votes no on ESD #1

One of the hottest topics around the county this election season was the potential creation of a new taxing district in the Columbus, Frelsburg and Bernardo areas. 
In the unofficial results of the Nov. 7 amendments elections, county voters decided against the formation of ESD #1 to prevent the increase of property taxes in the specified area intended to increase funding for local volunteer fire departments.
In a relatively close race, 52 percent of the overall voters chose ‘no’ with some major victories for that outcome in precincts 303 and 304.
Results are unofficial, and will be confirmed at by the Commissioners after the election canvassing next Wednesday, Nov. 15.
