Lady Cards get momentum heading into playoffs

The Columbus Lady Cardinals closed out their district schedule with a huge win over Industrial on Tuesday, Oct. 24, gaining some momentum heading into the playoffs.

The Lady Cards won the match in three straight sets Tuesday night and got scoring from multiple different areas throughout the game.

While Tuesday’s game was not a playoff game the atmosphere in the gym had a playoff feel to it. The Lady Cards fed off the energy the home crowd brought on Tuesday night as every point fired up the crowd more and more.

The first set saw the Lady Cards completely dominate their opponents from start to finish to set the tone for the match. The Lady Cards defense kept Industrial to six points while their high-flying offense did what they do best to win the set 25-6.

Taylor Morrow, Ally Tribe Claire Klausmeyer and Ember Mandola were all in attack mode on Tuesday night accounting for 19, 28, 10 and 14 total attacks. These attacks paid off in a big way as all three of them combined for 21 kills in the match.

Sage Thomas was again the heartbeat of the offense racking up 20 assists in Tuesday’s match helping her team to a big win before playoffs.

The second set was the opposite of the first set as Industrial’s offense started to find their rhythm. The Lady Cards were caught asleep at the wheel a little bit in the second set, but they were able to stabilize themselves and come away with a 25-21 win.

Tribe, Thomas and Caylie Neisner played a big role in the second set displaying their veteran leadership as well as their stellar defensive play. The Lady Cards trio racked up 31 digs in the match to keep the point alive for the lethal Lady Cards offense.

The third set and final set was more of the same for the Lady Cards as they cruised to another victory to close out the match.

With the match finished, the Lady Cardinals finished off their district season with a perfect 14-0 record and a 38-5 record overall. The Lady Cards already added the district title to their list of accomplishments thise season and now head into playoffs looking to add a bigger trophy to their trophy case.

Their playoff journey will begin on Monday. Oct. 30, when they travel to Schulenburg to take on the Great Heart Northern Oaks Griffins for their first-round matchup.
