The Columbus Cardinals have been having one of the best seasons in all of high school football and they are being recognized for it.

With a record of 9-0 this season the Cardinals are ranked number one in Class 3A- Division 1 according Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Rankings.

The Cardinals put in a lot of hard work this season to earn their spot at the top of the rankings by defeating every tough opponent thrown their way. They have beaten bigger schools and schools to be considered better than them and they welcomed every challenge.

The Cardinals are averaging 48 points a game on offense thanks to a great combination of quarterback Adam Schobel making big time throws and Ty’Vone Whitehead breaking off big time runs. The Cardinals have been able to mix up defenses and catch them sleeping on play action plays and motion plays to score in multiple different ways.

Strong offensive line play from the Cardinals allows Schobel and Whitehead to execute at a high level while the talented and speedy receivers take care of the rest. Schobel is confident in all of his receivers because they are all athletic and speedy enough to be a favorable matchup for any defensive back they face.

The potent offense is a big driving force behind the Cardinals success this season, but their defense is also a big factor. Defensively the Cardinals are one of the best teams in the state thanks to their ability to take the ball away.

The Cardinals’ defense takes the ball away at least one or two times a game alllowing the offense to buzz around. They average 13 points against on defense while being one of the best defenseive teams on fourth down.

The defensive line play from the Cardinals is something that goes unnoticed a lot too because the offense is so good. The defensive line for the Cardinals has forced several quarterbacks to either make a bad throw leading to an interception or take a sack.

The third aspect of football is well covered by the Cardinals as their kicker Javier Mendoza has been consistent and reliable all season long. Making PATs is a luxury that most football fans take for granted and to have one that is consistent and reliable paired with a high-flying offense and stout defense a team earn the number one spot in the state and that is the Columbus Cardinals.

With one more game left on their schedule on the road against Hempstead on Friday, Nov. 3, the Cardinals will look to get one more win under their belt before starting their playoff journey.
