The Weimar Ladycats have punched the ticket to the post season securing third place in the district and hosted Brazos for a playoff warm up game on Friday, Oct. 27, in Weimar.

The Weimar Ladycats have punched the ticket to the post season securing third place in the district and hosted Brazos for a playoff warm up game on Friday, Oct. 27, in Weimar.

The Ladycats defeated Brazos in three straight sets to pick up a late win and give them some confidence heading into the playoffs.

The Ladycats have a little bit of a sour taste in their mouth after losing out on second place in the district because of a coin flip and they took it out on Brazos. The Ladycats were tied with Shiner for second place in the district and after a coin flip Shiner was declared second place and the Ladycats were moved to third.

While it is technically one of the fairest ways to figure out the rankings the Ladycats were ready to show people that they are not the third best team in this district. They accomplished this goal by not backing down in a playoff warm up game and even picked up a statement win.

The Ladycats came out firing on all cylinders and found their offense early in the set and it set the tone for the match. The Ladycats established an early lead and stepped on the gas from there on their way to a 25-16 win in the first set.

They defended the net well and when the Brazos offense was able to get the ball past the Ladycats first line of defense the Ladycats ability to run their bump, set and spike system to perfection to send the ball back.

The second set followed this theme as well, but Brazos came back and applied to the Ladycats. Brazos came out in the second set looking to get themselves back into the game and started off strong.

The Ladycats were ready for the counterpunch though and they got back to their offensive and defensive rhythm. Communcation was at an all-time high for the Ladycats as well in the second set and it paid off in a big way, securing a 25-18 win to go up two sets to zero.

Starting match point in the face the Ladycats did not hesitate to seize the opportunity and close out the match in the third set. The third set was very similar to the second set as the two teams went back and forth until the Ladycats ran away with the score to end the match.

The Ladycats can now build off of this momentum as their playoff journey begins on Monday, Oct. 30, when they to Industrial to take on Refugio on Tuesday, Oct, 31 at 5 p.m.
