The Weimar Lady Cats traveled to Corpus Christi, TX to participate in the Regional Cross Country Meet on Tuesday, Oct. 24, looking to make it to the State Championship meet.

The Ladycats had a strong showing to cap off their cross-country season finishing in 8th place out of 23 teams at the regional meet.

Leading the way for the Ladycats was Faith Cantwell who finished the race in 14 minutes and 28 seconds. Cantwell’s time was good enough for fourth place and with a competitive time leading the Ladycats the rest of the team followed that lead.

Tate Griffin and Alazay Moreno were the next Ladycats’ to cross the finish line in 46th and 54th place. Griffin finished with a time of 14 minutes and 40 seconds and Moreno finished in 14 minutes and 48 seconds.

The combination of Griffin and Moreno boosted the Ladycats up the standings and optimism was starting to set in as they continued to push for a State Championship qualification.

The next pair of Ladycats across the finish line were Karen Martinez and Emily Guzman in 82nd and 88th place. Martinez finished the race in 15 minutes and 22 seconds while Guzman was only nine seconds behind her teammate with a time of 15 minutes and 31 seconds.

They were followed by another pair of Ladycats as Addison Zinnante and Brooke Ohnheiser crossed the finish line in 109th and 112th place. Zinnante finished the race in 16 minutes flat and eight seconds later Ohnheiser finished with a time of 16 minutes and eight seconds.

With all the Ladycats making their way across the finish line they waited to see if they did enough as a team to qualify for the state meet. Unfortunately, they were just short of the mark and did not qualify for the state meet.

Despite not making it to the State meet the Ladycats runners and coaches are proud of all that they accomplished this season. Winning the District Championship is
