Columbus – When runners cross the starting line at the Hound Song Brewing 5k Run on Nov. 11, they’ll have a special incentive to hurry back. Each runner will be rewarded for their efforts with a souvenir pint glass and their choice of Hound Song craft beers.
At least 200 runners and walkers are expected at the event which starts and finishes at Hound Song Brewing, 535 Walnut Street. The event starts at 8 a.m. in the brewery’s beer garden. Additional details and registration are available online at www.RunInTexas.com/hound.
“A lot of runners are big fans of Texas-brewed craft beer, so this event brings runners from Columbus and beyond,” race director Bill Gardner said.
The race benefits the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department. Volunteers from the department will help hand out water and sports drinks along the course.
This is the second year for the 5k event at the brewery, which opened downtown in 2020.
Owner and brewmaster Travis Kocurek won a national award last month at the Great American Beer Festival, an annual competition that judged 9,298 beers from breweries in all 50 states. Kocurek won one of 303 total medals awarded at the competition for Hound Song’s La Cabrona, a specialty Berliner- style Weisse beer.
After the race, runners can enjoy up to four 8-oz. pours of Hound Song beer included with their entry. Each runner also receives a performance fabric race T-shirt. The overall winners and top three winners in each age group will receive custom-made awards specially designed for beer lovers.
