COLUMBUS –
Charles Perkins, 27, Julian Murphy, 24, Belvyon Jackson, 20, and two juveniles, were taken into custody for the alleged counts of Burglary of a Building, Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, and Unlawful Use of Criminal Instrument. The juveniles were processed, referred to juvenile probation and released to their guardian.
Deputies dispatched to Mikeska’s Bar-B-Q on Oct. 23 in response of a triggered burglary alarm just past midnight and saw a vehicle with an equipment violation on U.S. 90 heading towards Columbus from the direction of the business. Deputy Tyler Pavlicek noticed the violation and pulled the vehicle over while Deputy Zane Blaha continued on to Mikeska’s to find that the business had indeed been recently burglarized according to police.
Officers say that during the traffic stop, Pavlicek gained probable cause to search the vehicle leading to the uncovering of “assorted criminal instruments, masks, and assorted currency inside the vehicle.”
A statement given to Deputy Blaha by the victim reported the amount of money and bills taken from the establishment; an amount that matched the currency found in the vehicle stopped by Deputy Pavlicek. They also found tools that were similar to the types of marks left behind during the business’s robbery.
According to the police, the deputies confirmed the car to be the vehicle related to multiple burglaries in Eagle Lake. The officers recognized the vehicle after seeing a post with its picture circulating Facebook on the Eagle Lake Police Department’s page.
The Colorado County Sherriff’s Office worked in conjunction with the Columbus Police Department to apprehend the alleged suspects.
