The Weimar Wildcats won their second district game in a row on Friday, Oct. 13, shutting out the Hearne Eagles on their home field.

The Weimar Wildcats won their second district game in a row on Friday, Oct. 13, shutting out the Hearne Eagles on their home field.

The win moved the Wildcats to a 6-2 overall record and a 2-2 district record slotting them into 4th place in the standings.

The game started with both teams’ defenses not budging and doing their jobs to perfection. They kept the game scoreless which was expected from a tough district matchup, but the Wildcats were hungry for the endzone.

Zach Norrell was the driving force behind the Wildcats 293 total rushing yards earning 110 of those total yards. Norrell also added two touchdowns to the scoreboard along with Wyatt Lacina and Dereon Johnson adding a touchdown each.

The Wildcats scored their first two touchdowns in the second quarter of the game and established a 12-0 lead over the Eagles. The Wildcats missed their first two PAT attempts but were able to hang onto the 12-0 lead until halftime.

Out of the break the Wildcats picked up right where they left off adding another rushing touchdown to the lead. They capitalized on their first PAT of the game to make the score 19-0 and put the Wildcats in the driver’s seat to put the game to bed.

The Wildcats’ defense kept the Eagles in check for the rest of the game, keeping the Eagles behind the line of scrimmage on most drives. The Eagles’ defense was making plays as well, but the Wildcats’ undeniable rushing attack was too strong on Friday night, and they had one more play in their playbook.

The Wildcats took the field in the fourth quarter and did what they did all game long, and that was turn around and hand the ball off to their running back and block until he had nothing but green grass in front of them. The Wildcats were able to find the endzone again because of that offense and after another successful PAT attempt the Wildcats were up 26-0 with three minutes left on the clock where the defense closed out the game and secured the shutout.

With only two games left on their schedule, they are considered must-win games if the Wildcats want to make the playoffs as they begin preparing for their matchup on Friday, Oct. 20, against Schulenburg in Schulenburg.
