The Rice Lady Raiders volleyball team are still learning tough lessons this season as the search for their second district win continues.

The Lady Raiders traveled to Palacios on Tuesday, Oct. 10, before welcoming in Yoakum on Friday, Oct. 13, for their second of the two district games last week.

@ Palacios, L, 3-0 (23-25, 18-25, 18-25) The Lady Raiders started off the district matchup on Tuesday Night by playing some of their best volleyball. They pushed Palacios to their very limit before conceding the set but really showed how good they can be in the coming years.

The Lady Raiders were swept on Tuesday night but showed a lot of improvement during this losing streak. They continue to work and compete throughout the game without worrying necessarily about what the score board says.

They were in every set throughout the matchup Tuesday and showed that their young players are starting to piece it together and really are applying those fundamentals to their game. They forced Palacios into multiple errors that gave the Lady Raiders points and confidence.

In addition to that they dominated the net Tuesday night out blocking Palacios for the entire match keeping them within striking distance and making palacios earn every point. The Lady Raiders showed a ton of improvement in Tuesday’s loss and wanted to carry that momentum and swagger into their game Friday, Oct. 13, against Yoakum.

Vs. Yoakum, L, 3-0 (8-25, 13-25, 20-25) The Lady Raiders again found themselves the victim of their own errors on Friday night as they struggled to get anything going in the first set.

The second set is where the Lady Raiders settled in to the game and started making some plays. They would have Yoakum on the ropes but would be unable to get over the hump by a score of 25-13.

Down two sets the Lady Raiders showed why they has been one of the most improved teams throughout this season. They started the third set dominating the net and keeping the score close.

The Lady Raiders executed their offense to perfection in the third set as well but unfortunately Yoakum strung together some late points and picked up the third and final win.

Looking ahead for the Lady Raiders they will look to find a way back into the win column before the season ends with their next match against Tidehaven on Tuesday, Oct. 17, in Tidehaven being their next opportunity to do so.
