The Weimar Wildcats traveled back to Shiner to run in the District Meet on Monday, Oct. 9, and the Ladycats punched their ticket to the Regional Meet.
The Ladycats had one of the strongest showings at the District Meet and will look to carry it over to the Regional Meet.
Leading the way for the Ladycats was Faith Cantwell, who finished in 7th place with a time of 13 minutes and 54 seconds. Right behind her though, were teammates Alazay Moreno Tate Griffin and Addison Zinnante finishing in 11th , 13th and 14th place respectively.
Moreno crossed the finish line with a time of 14 minutes and three seconds, finishing the race 12 seconds before Griffin and 15 seconds before Zinnante. Griffin would finish with a time of 14 minutes and 15 seconds with Zinnante posting a time of 14 minutes and 18 seconds.
The next trio of Ladycats to cross the finish line was Emily Guzman, Brooke Ohnheiser and Karen Martinez. These ladies would secure 17th, 22nd and 27th place for the Ladycats and effectively helped them punch their ticket to the Regional Meet.
Guzman ran the race in 14 minutes and 30 seconds which was 24 seconds before Ohnheiser with a time of 14 minutes and 54 seconds. Martinez crossed shortly after with a time of 15 minutes and 20 seconds to help the Ladycats as a team secure third place in the team standings.
The Ladycats did not run alone at the District Meet as the Weimar boys’ cross-country also participated in the meet and also delivered solid times in their race.
Despite a strong showing from the boys in their race, they will be on the outside looking in for the Regional Meet. Leading them off was Troy Cantwell, who continued his outstanding cross-country season finishing with a time of 21 minutes and three seconds.
Cantwell would secure 12th place in the race and four minutes later more of his teammates would cross the finish line as well. Ty Chmelik and Cadyn Booker would finish only a minute apart with Chmelik finishing in 25 minutes and 39 seconds and Booker finishing in 26 minutes and 48 seconds.
Capping off the boys’ performance was Lupe Molina with a time of 27 minutes and three seconds.
The Ladycats now set their sights on the Regional Preview Meet in Altair, TX on Monday, Oct. 16 in Altair, TX before heading to Corpus Christi, TX on Monday, Oct. 23 to participate in the Regional Meet.
