The Weimar Wildcats picked up their first district win of the season over the Thorndale Bulldogs on the road in Thorndale on Friday, Oct. 6.

The Wildcats’ offense ran all over the Bulldogs leading them to a 35-22 win on Friday night, but they had to get an early wakeup call before taking over the game.

The Bulldogs would open the scoring in front of their home crowd with a rushing touchdown to give them an early 7-0 lead over the Wildcats. Coming off of two tough losses, the Wildcats were determined to leave Thorndale with a victory and turned up the pressure on the Bulldogs.

Before the first quarter ended the Wildcats marched down the field to score a rushing touchdown of their own. Junior quarterback Huxton Kloesel would lead the rushing attack for the Wildcats Friday night racking up an impressive 226 yards while finding the endzone two times.

Junior tight end Dereon Johnson also contributed to the run game for the Wildcats adding 110 yards and a touchdown. The Wildcats had 470 total yards of offense, all of them coming from their rushing attack.

The rushing attack was on full display right before the first quarter. The Wildcats added a second score to the board to take a 13-7 lead into the second quarter because of a missed PAT. The Wildcats would not miss a beat though as they scored on their first possession of the second quarter and capitalized on the two-point conversion right after to make the score 21-7.

Neither team scored before halftime but that set up some excitement in the third quarter. The Bulldogs defense started the second half strong and kept the Wildcats off the board for the entire quarter while scoring a touchdown and two-point conversion to make it a one score game before the fourth quarter.

The two teams would trade scores to start the fourth making the score 27-22 in favor of the Wildcats with five-minute left in the game. The Wildcats would put the game out of reach with one last rushing touchdown and twopoint conversion to make the score 35-22 and the defense closed out the game.

With one district win under their belt the Wildcats now set their sights on Hearne who will be visiting the Wildcats home field this Friday, Oct. 13, where they will look to keep their playoff hopes alive.
