The Weimar Ladycats lost their first district game of the season to Schulenberg on Tuesday, Oct. 3, while trying to defend their home court.

The Ladycats would lose the match in four sets, but they made sure to make things difficult for the visitors.

Vs. Schulenberg, L, 3-1, (22-25, 23-25, 25-20, 1425) The Ladycats fired out of the gate Tuesday night looking to improve their district record to 3-0 and really make a push for the top spot in district. Schulenberg came into Tuesday’s game looking to keep their undefeated record intact as well.

With two teams ready to sacrifice everything to keep their loss column at zero it made for fireworks on the court. The score of the first three sets represents exactly what this game was and that was an all-out dog fight with every point being a statement to the other team showing that they were not going to back down.

With Schulenberg taking the first two sets the Ladycats were not going to take that on their home court and stood up to show they had some fight despite being down two sets to zero in the match. The Ladycats would respond in a fiery way dominating the third set and giving themselves some momentum heading into the fourth set.

U n f o r t u n a t e l y , Schulenberg was equal to the task and shut down the Ladycats’ offense awarding them a win in the fourth set and by extension, the match.

After the tough loss on home court the Ladycats enjoyed homecourt advantage for a second straight game when they welcomed Ganado in for another district showdown.

Vs. Ganado, W, 3-0 (2512, 25-9, 25-12) Coming off the loss the Ladycats responded in a big way picking up a huge district win over Ganado.

The Ladycats would win a three set match on Friday night to keep themselves in the hunt for a playoff spot.

They would start the match off playing a full team game as they transitioned between offense and defense without any issues. They defended the net very well Friday night, leading to blocked balls that would hit the floor giving the Ladycats an early and comfortable lead.

They would couple their demonstrative defensive play with a buzzing offense that was scoring at will and sending a message to their district opponent.

After winning the first set the Ladycats kept their rhythm and cruised to a win in the next two sets to finish the match all while keeping their opponent under 15 points the entire match.

The Ladycats still have some district games left on their schedule and with playoffs being a goal they will want to build off of this win in their next match against Flatonia on Tuesday, Oct. 10, where they will continue their hunt for a playoff spot.
