The Rice Lady Raiders dropped their sixth game in a row after losing a three-set match to the Industrial Cobras on Friday, Oct. 6, on their home court.

The young Lady Raiders are still learning and growing through some hard lessons as the season moves along and despite the loss the Raiders gained very valuable experience that they will use to continue to build.

The match would start off with a ton of adversity with the Raiders falling behind early and the Cobras running away with the score. They would keep the Raiders in check, ending the first set by a score of 25-10.

Lady Raiders head coach David Leist would settle his team between the first and second set and they would come out with much more confidence. The Lady Raiders’ offense started to gain some momentum in the second set, and their defense was also ready to play.

They stayed in the set for the majority of the time but just could not get over that last little hump to help them close out the set and the Cobras again took advantage and secured a victory in the second set.

While they were down 2-0 in the matchup and one set loss away from losing the match, the Lady Raiders gritted their teeth and kept pushing. Leist has talked about how his team never quits and plays till the very end and it was on display Friday when they did not back down from the Cobras in the third set.

The Lady Raiders again put the Cobras on their heels and were right there with them on the scoreboard before running into some late-set trouble with errors. The Lady Raiders led the game in errors, having 41 to the Cobras 21, and it allowed the Cobras to seize control of the third set and win it by a score of 25-16 effectively ending the match.

The Lady Raiders are still searching for their second district win of the season as they are now preparing for their next opponent, the Palacios Sharks, on Tuesday, Oct. 10, in Palacios, TX.
