The Weimar boys’ hoops team has had some struggles on the defensive end in their most recent games. Last week, their opponents scored a combined 138 points in two games as Weimar failed to slow down those respective offenses. Weimar had difficulties with their own offensive attack as well, and they struggled through a pair of blowout losses against district opponents.
Vs Flatonia, L, 71-34
The Wildcats’ trip to visit the first-place team in the district was as one-sided a game as the Wildcats have had all season. Flatonia has taken the district lead largely due to their potent offense, and they showed a prime example of how it has led them this season. Weimar allowed back-toback, 20-point quarters in the second and third periods, including a game-high 26 points by the Bulldogs in the second. Conversely, the Wildcats had nowhere near the same success offensively, finishing with just one double-digit scoring quarter and a game-low five points in the fourth.
Derek Rees led the team with 10 points as the Wildcats’ only double-digit scorer. Huxton Kloesel and Brady Henke scored six points each, while Dreylon McMillian and Marcus Castillo scored four points each. Camden Morrison led the team with seven rebounds, followed by Kloesel and Jerron Fisher who picked up five boards apiece.
Vs Schulenburg, L, 67-44 Weimar found a much better offensive attack in their Friday night game against Schulenburg. They increased their point total by ten points from their prior game and had only one quarter in which they failed to reach double-digit scoring. They put up their best quarter of the week with a 16-point final frame to end the game. However, the outcome of the game may have already been determined by that point as the defense once again struggled to slow down their opponents. Schulenburg scored 14 or more points in every period, ending on an exclamation point with a 22-point fourth quarter.
The scoring effort was much more well-rounded in this game as eight different Wildcats finished with points. Brady Henke led them all with nine points, followed by Derek Rees, Marcus Castillo and Huxton Kloesel who all had seven points each. Kloesel had seven boards to go along with his points followed by Dreylon McMillian who had six rebounds as well as six points and a team-leading two steals.
