Finding Bella’s bowl / standing ovation

A View Of Columbus Through Rose-Colored Glasses

A View Of Columbus Through Rose-Colored Glasses

This column is dedicated to acknowledge examples of positives that express the community spirit of Columbus – our town.

If you were with me last article, you recall the mystery of Bella’s missing bowl.

Yes, the bowl is back in place. Just for the record, it was missing for nearly two weeks. What a relief! I’m sorry that the hiding place was not a lot more mysterious.

The special bowl (I think it’s stainless) was found under the commode in that little space between the commode and the wall. Actually, it was caught there, or I think Bella would have found it on her own. Bella’s outlook on life immediately changed and she was quite content again.

Missy Parker, Bella’s owner, relaxed and got right back to her project, “Saving the Stafford Opera House”.

Everyone likes to receive a sincere compliment, and folks often miss the opportunity to give one. I’m calling those compliments a STANDING OVATION.

Columbus Christian Womens’ Organization is at the top of this list. The “TIFFIN TEA” on Saturday, Sept. 23, was extraordinary. The location was the Live Oak Art Center dressed in the finest floral bouquets.

Now let’s speak to the delightful menu overseen by Ester Chandler. The heart of the tea was the group of talented artists who painted at each table. The paintings were auctioned, and those receipts made up the CCWO’s donations to non-profits in our community.

The next big “thank you” goes to St Paul Lutheran Church for the pleasure of the ride to an out-of-town football game in their church bus.

The driver, Pastor Allen, could probably qualify as a NASCAR driver if he wished. He handled the Friday afternoon traffic on the way to North Forest with great expertise.

That next accolade goes to the Columbus Cardinal football team. Cheers to the boys and coaches for their stamina in this Texas heat. Their games are a grand display of Friday night high school football in Texas.

Next round of applause is for the Cardinal volleyball team. Girls, thank you for your tradition of excellence.

Kudos to Peggy Harrison, the new president of the board of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce. Hurrah to the volunteers who support the Senior Connection. A vote of confidence goes to the parents who take their children regularly to the Nesbitt Library.

The next accolade is a cheer for all who support the “Big Market” each month. The hamburger volunteers, the Pilsners, who cook for the Cardinal concession stand deserve a round of applause.

My last “thank you” goes to husbands or friends who assist wheelchair bound folks at ball games or other affairs. Thanks to all of you who are the spirit of Columbus – our town. You all deserve a standing ovation!
