EAGLE LAKE – Three Colorado County Historical Markers will be installed Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 to mark their historical impact on the area.
The public is invited. Don’t miss these events as we celebrate and dedicate these icons of important local history.
These new markers will join the collection of Texas Historical Markers which tell the story of the Lone Star State. Join members of the Colorado County Historical Commission and the Eagle Lake community for the events. Markers were written and submitted by Sandra C. Thomas.
Saturday, Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. Prairie Edge Museum: Marker honoring Cicero Howard, Eagle Lake’s first African County Commissioner who served multiple terms and was a manager at the William Dunovant farms in Eagle Lake.
Saturday, Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. Masonic Lodge 119 McCarty near post office: Marker honoring the successful 150-year anniversary of the Eagle Lake Masonic Lodge and its service to the community and state.
Sunday, Oct. 8 at 3 p.m. Lissie United Methodist Church Parlor: Marker honoring the establishment of the Chesterville community over a century ago which brought families from the midwest to settle 60,000 acres in the area.
