Sophomore Carson Wray opened the golf season with a strong performance during the fall.

The Columbus High School graduate ranked third among the Blinn College men with a 75.90 scoring average through 11 rounds, playing in four tournaments.

His best finish was a tie for eighth in the final fall tournament. He shot 154 (80-74), third among the Buccaneers, who finished runner- up.

“I wanted some better finishing. My short game wasn’t where it needs to be,” he said. “It was more of the putts weren’t dropping.”

“I hit the ball well. My ball striking was fine,” he said. “I wasn’t as confident as I need to be.”

During the winter break he has focused his practices on putting. “It’s really all I’ve done,” Wray said.

The fall schedule included tournaments at courses he had not played. “They were more of a precise course. The greens were smaller,” he said.

He has two years of playing eligibility remaining and wants to continue his career after Blinn. He has been in touch with coaches at some schools in Texas, he said.

“My golf knowledge has come a long ways,” he said.

Men’s indoor track and field Texas A & M University junior Connor Schulman finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles at the Texas Tech meet. He is from Rice Consolidated.
