The Columbus Cardinals traveled to Anderson-Shiro High School on Wednesday, Sept. 29, for their cross country meet and they made a big splash.

The girls and boys both ran and out of the two groups they had four runners finish in the top 10 of their respective races.

Starting with the girls’ race, all three of the Lady Cardinals that ran in the race finished in the top 10. Kaylea Foster was the first to make it across the finish line for the Cardinals with a time of 13 minutes and 33 seconds.

Foster claimed 2nd place thanks to her efforts, and 20 seconds later her teammate finished in 3rd place. Chloee Ross crossed the finish line with a time of 13 minutes and 53 seconds to finish right behind Foster and have two of the top three spots secured.

Scarlett McClelland finished the race a minute and four seconds after Ross to claim 7th place for her team in the girls’ race. The stellar performance by the girls would set the boys up to turn in good numbers in their race as well.

Will Fitzgerald was the fourth Cardinal runner to finish in the top ten of their races on Wednesday crossing the finish line in 21 minutes and 21 seconds. Fitzgerald also claimed 2nd place because of his efforts with his teammates finishing the race a few minutes later.

Elijah Owen finished next for the Cardinals with a time of 24 minutes and 21 seconds to secure 28th place. Keegan Escamilla and Armando Hernandez would round out the Cardinals time in the race finishing the race in 26 minutes and 57 seconds and 27 minutes and 17 seconds.

The duo locked up the 41st and 43rd place for the Cardinals and put a cap on their outstanding performance at Anderson-Shiro meet.

With this meet wrapped up, the Cardinals will look to build on this performance as they make their way to Giddings to participate in the Camp Tejas meet on Friday, Sept. 29.
